What Boarding School Life in the Himalayas Is Really Like
Beyond the Brochure
Parents often ask us: "What is daily life actually like for my child at your hostel?" It's a fair question — sending your child to a boarding school is one of the biggest decisions a family can make.
Here's an honest look at what a typical day looks like for a boarding student at R.K. International School.
Morning Routine (6:00 - 8:00 AM)
The day starts at 6 AM. Students head to the grounds for physical exercise or yoga — the crisp Himalayan air at 900 metres makes this genuinely refreshing, not a chore. After freshening up, everyone gathers for breakfast in the dining hall. Our kitchen serves fresh, home-style meals — paranthas, eggs, milk, seasonal fruit.
Academic Hours (8:00 AM - 3:30 PM)
Classes run through the morning and early afternoon. The advantage of a residential school is that there's zero commute time — students walk from the hostel to their classroom in under two minutes. This means no fatigue before school even begins.
The Golden Hours (3:30 - 6:00 PM)
This is what makes boarding school life special. While day-school students are stuck in traffic or tuition classes, our boarders are on the cricket pitch, in the art room, or exploring the campus. Sports and co-curricular activities during these hours are not optional extras — they're essential for building confident, well-rounded young people.
Evening Study (6:00 - 9:00 PM)
Supervised study hours with faculty available for doubt-clearing. Senior students preparing for competitive exams get additional focused sessions. The environment is quiet, disciplined, and conducive to deep work.

Is Boarding Right for Your Child?
It's not for everyone, and that's okay. But for students who thrive on routine, peer learning, and independence, a residential programme can be transformative. We encourage families to visit the campus before making a decision.
